Things we've learned over the last 10 weeks and our plans

Last night was the final MAPP class in preparation for foster care.  We have learned a lot of technical and practical stuff about the need for and processes behind today's foster care and adoption system.  We've learned that there are many hurting kids out there in need of a safe and loving environment to be in for as long as is necessary until it's safe for them to return home. (If that is ever possible)  We've learned a lot about the different ways abuse and neglect can harm a child--way beyond physical pain.  We've learned that there is no real way to completely prepare for this; it is going to be a learn as you go adventure!  We've learned a lot about ourselves and our family.  I think that the thing that stuck out the most is that this is going to be an incredible new way for our family to serve God and rely on Him.  We look forward to the things He has to teach us as we seek to minister to "the least of these".  We know that this is going to change our family.

This week we had to fill out very specific paperwork about what type of kids we would take.  We are getting licensed for up to 2 kids under the age of 10, with a preference of kids ages 1-5.  I will be calling soon to set up a home inspection with our FSC (family service coordinator) and are planning on getting our temporary license in or around May or June.

We really appreciate our friends and family who have come along side us and offered prayers, love, support and even physical items as we jump in this with both feet.  Like I've mentioned before, we continue to covet your prayers and support as the 'real work' begins.  Last nights MAPP class was titled "Endings and Beginnings".  It was the end of the classes, but really just the beginning of many things to come.  We don't know where God will lead our family through this journey.  We are both excited and apprehensive as we continue down this path.
